Monarchs Fall to Heritage

By Will Garlick of VirginiaPreps.com

Menchville played one half of solid football, but had no answer in the second half for Heritage running back Richard Anthony who ran for a score, threw a touchdown pass, and returned a kickoff 94-yards in the Hurricanes 31-6 victory.

Menchville's Odis Wesby got things rolling with a 5-yard touchdown with 11:31 left in the second after Donnell Whitehead recovered a Heritage fumble. But the Monarchs could not overcome their six turnovers and fell to 0-1 on the new season.

My offensive player of the game was Wesby. The senior had a big game scoring the Monarchs only touchdown and rushing for 91-yards on 14 carries. He was also one of the Monarchs leading tacklers on defense.

My defensive player of the game was end Mario Thompson who had a great first half with eight tackles. He combined with Caz McCarthy on a quarterback sack and was also in on the tackle that led to a Heritage fumble at the Canes own 23-yard line. Menchville scored on their next possession.
